Yesterday seemed a very strange day to us, the builders weren't there. There had been a delay with the cables for the underfloor heating they were going to lay in the sun lounge.
As the sun was finally showing its face, all 15 of us [13 ducks/drakes and John and I] spent morning and afternoon in the garden, it was a really nice day in spite of the cold wind.

After two days away from home [luncheon club duty on Wednesday and afterwards visit to the tile shop to choose the floor tiles for the sun lounge; Thursday on the monthly walk around Willesley Woods and afterwards another visit to the tile shop as the tiles we'd chosen the day before were out of stock] I manageda to take a couple of photos Thursday afternoon.
John was first outside yesterday and tidied up outside the garage:

I still marvel how fast the little tykes appear whenever we show up in the garden - especially if there's a spade or fork in our hands - and what on earth they always seem to find to eat when we can't see at all what they're picking up. The three Welsh girls are incredibly trusting to us, of the others only Anabelle and Primmie come as close.

I went and did a bit of Spring cleaning in three beds; as soon as my little fork went into the ground and turned up soil, one or another beak were straight into it. Braith, Morf and Taffy appear to have assumed important positions within the group, Anabelle and Primmie - who used to be so forward - only dared come close after those three had examined everything first.

I took the camera and went to the duck pond with the intention to take snaps of the great number of new mole hills down there. Braith and Morf followed - they always seem to hope that I can produce a few worms out of nowhere.

Then I noticed Decibels swimming in the duck pond all alone - she did call for the others, but they were too busy and didn't come. Poor Decibels certainly seems to be on the bottom rung of the ladder in the group at the moment, she's always trailing behind.
Just on the right from where I'd taken that shot I spotted BBD and two white ducks in the wild flower patch - I haven't a clue what took their attention there,
but a few minutes later they all went off to get a few wheat grains down them after all those worms.

When I took a photo of the sprouting rhubarb I could see that Decibels was still in the pond. It was quite a while before she took courage to come out and cautiously trot up to join the others in the orchard.
All 13 are together again in this photo.
There was one spot in the orchard they went back to time and again to stick their beaks in, even after I'd gone back into the house to make tea I could snap them there:
Must have been particularly interesting!
Was beginning to worry it had gone so quiet !
ReplyDeleteIt was precisely to stop you worrying that I made the effort!
ReplyDeleteBut I must say I was very pleased with some of the photos - the three girls at the blue water container where you can see the feathers so clearly and the big view where the house looks positively palatial!
It does that's my favourite view. Have a kitchen full of curry pans to negotiate and have seen a few survivors of last night .....one still looks beautiful! Rough is the kindest I can say for the other. Cup of tea in bed first !
