Wednesday, 9.2.11 - remembering friend Bryan on his birthday and congratulations to Michael in Handorf on his!

What a difference in weather from one day to another!
We have rain this morning, but yesterday  -  it was a beautiful Spring day.  It's true there was some frost on the ground at first and ice on the water buckets, but look .....

... have you noticed that the overhead cable is missing on this picture?  The electricians were here Tuesday afternoon and fetched it down.

Yesterday afternoon was just grand.  John was already outside when I came out of the garage armed with camera, garden forks and ~trug.  The sun was right in my face, but what was that going on there, was John in the process of shovelling the ducks away because they were getting in his way?
And because they wouldn't go was he trying to stamp on them?
Of course not, I'm kidding.  John was trying to fill in a stretch of the deep tracks with soil, stamp them down and then flatten everything with the "whacker" plate compacter.  That didn't work out as he'd imagined, so he went and dug over the lowest veg bed [the one with the leeks at the end] ............ to the huge delight of the feathered little pigs gathered all around him!

In the meantime I started to free my beloved gooseberry bushes from weeds. It is really bad there with twitch, in 1½ hours I only managed this small piece of ground:
The ducks were torn, where should they help, me with the weeding or John with his digging?  If you have never experienced it - there are few more enjoyable things to do in this world on a sunny day like yesterday, than digging up worms to the accompaniment of ducks squeaking with delight!

We've got our first delay with the build.  The workmen had built up the end gable, but the steel beam that is to go there next won't come until tomorrow.
