The preparations for the house extension have progressed well. First, the roof of the conservatory was removed, the glass panes were carefully numbered and stored in the greenhouse.
The monstera plant in the middle of this picture was the only one we hadn't moved into the house, it was too big and heavy. I had intended to store it in a sheltered spot under the lilac behind the house, but overnight all leaves had been frosted even though I had wrapped a double layer of fleece around it. I cut all the leaves off in the hope that the frost had not yet penetrated into the stem, so that the plant would put out new shoots. It now looks a sorry sight in the house entrance next to the telephone.
Friday lunch time the conservatory had all gone apart from the little brick wall.
I think the ceanothus you can see on the right of the fish pond [all brown] has also been killed by the frost - the cold spell before Christmas was really severe.
The last load of bricks and concrete could not be shifted yesterday afternoon, the builders had a problem with the lorry. They'll continue Monday.
But I can't put an entry in here entirely without pictures of the ducks, can I, so here's one from early Thursday morning:
