We had rain overnight, not frost and ice as expected when my friends Pat and Graham drove me back from the Pie Night at Beaumanor Hall [it was great!] last night.
Nothing has been done about the huge gaps in my hedge since the fence was built next door, although I was promised "a bush this week" when I went into the Post Office last Monday.

The two large fence panels against the trunk of the pollarded cherry tree were part of the barrier Pat and I put up last November to stop the big Alsatian dog coming through from next door.
I don't know why, but for the last week or so my ducks have been spending their afternoons in and around the frog pond, surely it's too early for frog spawn?

Every day the squirrels feeding and fighting on the bird food birch make me smile. There are three of them in the photo above, but there were four just moments before. Below are a few more shots, one with a great tit right next to the little tree rat:
I love the way it's holding peanuts in these shots:

My little seedlings are still growing well, some of them I shall soon have to transfer to the conservatory. I'm particularly proud that two date kernels I planted [after instructions from a birthday book from the Boag girls] are sprouting:
