Our biggest cherry tree, the one in Dotty's run, has been pollarded today. John and I had promised our neighbours at the Post Office that we'd have the branches cut severely because the tree robbed Stella and Richard of precious light when they tried to relax in the garden after work.
The tree surgeons arrived early at 8 as promised, worked very hard, and by half past 12 the work was done and everything tidied up beautifully, I recommend these two!
Shortly before duck bedtime [which is about quarter past 5 these days] I saw that the sky looked beautiful, and I took a few photos with my iPad .......
...... when all of a sudden the ducks came running up, bit by bit:
Only two days ago they'd come running up as well, but en masse, and that was half an hour before normal bedtime. I think something must have happened down at the big pond where they spend all their days, maybe next door's cats scared them, or that pair of mallards that's been flying in recently. Anyway, they must have had a fright because they went straight into their respective huts without argument. Take a look at the third photo below, the arrow marks Anke beating up our handicapped Honey. I have no idea what sparked that off, Anke pursued her for ages, my shouting didn't stop her. Honey went off into Dotty's hut, and I made sure that Anke didn't follow her in!
The last few days I've been thinking a lot what I could hang on the now bare kitchen wall [after I removed the big shelf and moved the two cupboards underneath], and eventually decided on some patchwork. There were quite a few hexagonal elements stashed away, left over from Annie's school days, believe it or not, and lots of scraps of material even from when Annie had been six and I'd made her lots of clothes. So I pinned a few "flower" elements to an old sheet and hung it up on the wall, I thought it looked promising. So now I'm busy stitching lots and lots of hexagonal shapes together!
