On the last day of 2011 ....

...... I feel I must find time to wish all who take a peek in here a truly great new year 2012.  I want to forget about the feel of austerity in the country  -  let's make the best of what we've got and trust that we and all those we love can keep healthy and prosper, that's what I wish for you!

The last photos I took are from Tuesday 27th, when John planted 2 more of my Christmas trees - the two I admired most during our walks on Beacon Hill.

The sight of wheelbarrows, spades and forks is always irresistible to runner ducks, I could see they were already assembled as I walked down with my camera - Hedda, in the little picture top left, was still having a wash and brush up, although she then joined in with the constant up and down from the pond, albeit somewhat slower than the others:

In this photo you can see 5 drakes and just one duck  -  it's gonna be hell early in 2012!

John got me another tree from my wish list, a greengage plum which arrived early and he planted it for me in the orchard on the rainy Friday 23rd.

Unusually for them, the ducks didn't join the digging on this occasion, they were too busy running up into the vegetable beds and down again - when it's raining they seem to find a lot of goodies, they were doing the same in the rain this morning.

I nearly forgot to mention a happy event - yesterday and today one [or two?] of the young girls produced an egg after all; I had given up hope for this year!

And here's a photo of the arrangement niece Uschi and Jochen sent to us on Christmas Eve.  It arrived in pieces, but I managed to put it together again and it now brightens up one of our kitchen windows.  Thank you, Uschi and Jochen and happy 10th anniversary!

To end 2011 I'd like to put in 3 little pictures of John setting up the little goods train to run around the Christmas Tree, my request!  The gnome with the fish is Annie's "silly" present to John, we love it [it's going on top of the fish pond in the new year]!
