Springtime before forecast frost

Just a few pics, words to follow later!

OK, 16.30 now, some words and more photos:

It's the time of the year for blue Muscari and forget-me-nots,  - and lots and lots of tulips popping up everywhere:

One sad discovery, the pheasants have demolished these three Ranunculi - I had wondered why I couldn't see their cheerful heads any more from the windows.  Graham, please come and shoot the pheasants, they've also picked off the alliums as they appeared from the ground.

Last Tuesday and Wednesday I mixed up some dark soil, buttermilk [I had no yoghurt] and water, and brushed the mix over the horrible white concrete at the base of next door's fence:

        What it was like before

I think it looks much better now the "glare" has been taken off the concrete.

The ducks are spending most of their time near the house now, I really like seeing them around and of course the dangerous May/fox time is approaching.  I don't know if anything has happened at their favourite big pond nor who stole Dash's three eggs out of the blue tub down there.  Dash has usurped Gertie's place in the nest box in the hut, it's usually early afternoon when the boys finally fetch her out.

Favourite resting place is in the shade of the fir tree at the top of the orchard:

There are lots of tulips and other blooms in the top garden as well as in other places:

Things are growing well in the conservatory bed, in the greenhouse and behind - some left-over branches from the apple tree pruning still need shifting!
