After a good day in the garden

It was a really nice and sunny day,

After breakfast and a lovely phone call from Annie I had a surprise sighting of a Jay [first one in years]. It spent some time trying to get hold of some food off the bird table by the house and at the birch, but it was chased off by a couple of magpies.

My first outside jobs were watering in the greenhouse where the bits I planted are doing nicely:

Next I moved all the wood and tiles covering the earth in the conservatory, I thought I might as well make use of that patch of ground to plant lots of the seedlings I've grown and those that Pat and Graham brought me. The tiles that were there I put around the banana trees in the corners, they might stop the weeds coming through.

By the time that was done it was midday, and I thought it was time I got the big mower out to tackle the high grass in the field, it was particularly lush in the dip of the big field.  I got a bit carried away and did nearly all the big field and a large part of the garden.

At around half past 2 I took a break for lunch, and when I was checking emails afterwards there was a knock at the door and the Post Office lady finally delivered not one but two rhododendron, a small yellow flowering one and a larger pink one.  I planted both soon after:

I did some more tidying up in that area backing onto the Post Office, did a patch of weeding in the front garden and then called it a day.

The computer is extremely slow today, but I'll try and add a few photos from the last week:

Thursday 24th was the night of the heritage meeting I'd been preparing for a month or so. We were 33 in all, it went well - and it took me two whole days to recover!

On Easter Sunday I got lovely visitors, Carl and his family came and the weather cheered up enough for us to take a little walk around field and garden.

Not so the weather on Easter Monday, it snowed first thing, then turned into RAIN.

The weather must have cheered up at some time as I watched a tiny wren flitting about at the back
of the fish pond.  The gold finches that turned up a little later looked huge compared to the wren.

I made a start on filling up the skip, careful not to put in any items considered too heavy for me by Graham - I was on a warning!

Pat and Graham came to visit Tuesday morning after their week's holiday in the Lake District and promised to come back the next day to help fill the skip.

I had already made a start on moving some of these tiles and bricks that hadn't fitted into the previous skip last year, and it was amazing to see how quickly P&G made them disappear as well as any bulky items I hadn't moved.

The bare ground that was left after all that had disappeared proved very attractive to the ducks [I don't know why Ben was left standing outside, maybe he'd been put in his place by Jay?]:

The skip is now nearly ready for collection, but there are still several bags full of "stuff" to sort out in garage and shed!

The 'untidy' corner looks a lot better.

To finish for today [it's the 1st of April now, no joke!] 2 pics rummaging for slugs and snails at the back of the house:
