burning of duck bedding

Wishing you all a happy Sunday on this gloomy morning, especially Fran and Alan who sent me a lovely email a few days ago and I haven't answered it yet!

I had a busy Saturday, after getting the ducks sorted with breakfast I started loading the many bags of soiled duck bedding into the little steel trolley, 2 or 3 at a time depending on how heavy they were - the trolley still tipped over once going down a steep bit of hill.  I lost count, but I think there were 17 including the two latest ones after I'd emptied the duck hut.

There was a welcome interruption of a coffee/tea break when Pat and Graham came for a brief visit, then I lit the fire - and that was still going this morning when I took a few more photos a bit lighter than the the two I took around 5 last night from the house:

You'll soon not be able to see there
ever was a greenhouse on that spot!

I had covered my favourite plum tree with two more, much bigger, pieces of fleece, which I obviously hadn't fastened as well as this small piece because I found them scattered over the orchard the next morning.

This proves how mild a winter we've had. I noticed the green stuff in the frog pond a couple of weeks ago, and it survived the pond freezing over three times!

I raked the outlying duck bedding into a heap again, and it didn't take long before the smoke was drifting again merrily:
