Above left, viewed through a kitchen window: all 14 [Dotty doesn't manage to run with them] were lined up beautifully like a long snake, and although the camera was to hand in the kitchen I only caught the tailenders. Above left - I'd spotted them all standing bolt upright all of a sudden, CAT ALARM! Then they turned to each other to discuss strategy: "shall we attack or let her go by this time?"
What's new? Well, the rain did arrive, a day later than forecast but then it was a lot heavier [with thunder and lightning even] and lasted longer than expected. The ducks, even left-to-her-own-devices-Dotty, bore it well, only seeking shelter during extreme downpours. There's more wet to come, it's been raining steadily since early morning, now with added strong winds ...
Some of you may remember that my autumn and winter pictures are dotted with mole hills, I think it's the time that young moles go and find their own territory. A couple of weeks ago one of them decided to undermine a large area all around the breakfast bowls and the ramp to the shed. It couldn't go very deep because there's only a thin covering of grass on top of hardcore, and everywhere I looked and trod there were grassy bumps and tunnels to sink into. Under the bowls the holes and runs were well visible:
I've noticed recently that the young chap has moved into the flower bed behind, throwing up normal mole heaps!
Egg-laying has just about finished now, I might find one every three days or so. Now I have to decide if I dare start using the eggs I preserved in waterglass some months ago ...
