Putting another melon slice on the tread board didn't do the trick after all. This afternoon, so as to get them used to the new shiny box with food, I pinned down the tread to keep the tray with the food open to view, and that had the desired effect, I've now seen several of the ducks helping themselves, but not one of the drakes until just now, at nearly duck-bedtime. I'm hoping they get used to the food machine this way.
Anke has not been very interested in the new food machine, she's still concentrating on running after Jay:
A heron surprised us today by landing right underneath the birdfood birch, I couldn't get a decent picture,
and another beautiful bloom has appeared on one of Petra's
cactus cuttings she sent us:
Talking gorgeous blooms - the "Indian Summer" rose in front of the house looked very fresh after the rain.
