Early this morning I've been doing some baking, then did a load of printing before getting lunch [of course, the printer kicked up and it took ages], and early this afternoon I've been cleaning out all three duck huts and put in fresh bedding. After all that I thought I deserved some time for "playing" in this blog!
The water hoses were frozen for the third time about the middle of last week. I hadn't expected the forecast frost to be that hard and hadn't reeled the hoses in the night before. So I only carried enough water in the buckets for the 7 breakfast bowls and left filling all the other buckets and bowls until later in the morning when the hoses had thawed out.
Starting with the first large bucket I suddenly realized it was time for the ducks' dry food and rushed off to the garage to fetch it while the bucket was filling. Of course, it took longer than expected and when I went down with the grains I found our feathered mob were having a great time in the flood:
Honey wasn't there, I found her hiding under a bush in the field enclosure. She came out right away, though, and went to get some food, you can just see her at the bottom right corner of the photo above.
It's been a cold day today, but it was lovely to see lots of sunshine. We had visitors from neighbours Peter and Jeanette:
As I had the camera on me I thought I'd take a few snaps on my way down to Captain's hut. Honey had found yet another hiding place:
On my way back to the other two huts I took a quick photo of the great clear-out work John had done in our wildflower patch, also of my newly arrived quince tree which he planted very nicely for me. I wonder how long it will be before I can harvest great big quinces instead of the ornamental ones I've used so far?
