To celebrate the occasion he had invited us to a festive dinner at his new place of work, Fishmongers' Hall, London Bridge (the Fishmongers' Company is one of the Twelve Great Livery Companies of the City of London and among the most ancient of the City Guilds), where we were very warmly received by the staff and led into the reception room for champagne and canapés (the daintiest and most inventive I've ever seen).
I was quite overwhelmed by the beauty and splendour inside Fishmongers' Hall, the sumptuous table settings and the look and taste of our meal, it was without doubt the best I've ever eaten. Everything was most beautifully done and presented, the words 'superb' and 'exquisite' come closest to describing it all.
I've been given permission to post some of Annie's photos from the day:

Two days after the great occasion in London it was my birthday .... I'd been sent and given a huge amount of wonderful presents from well in advance of the actual day, the kitchen table was laden:
In the evening John treated friends Pat and Graham and those of the family who could come to a great meal at my favourite restaurant, the Lakeside at Shortheath Water:
The ducky lamp lights up beautifully and my new jumper is the business!
