Quite a little while ago now, on 25.2.2013, I got news of little "orphan Ollie" - you'll remember the little black duckling that hatched late last June and wasn't accepted by 'mum', 'auntie', or its brothers and sisters in the hatch:
Well, it seems she continues to do extremely well in her new home, she's a very happy duck in spite of not having other ducks for company, and she LOVES gardening!
I got other good news on Wednesday 13th, when I finally managed to get hold of Eric and Samantha to enquire after the 7 "boys" we gave them on 4th February. I heard they settled in very well, even go in at night on their own, and their new compound is next to the goats' which they go and "talk" to. Samantha says they haven't dared yet let the boys loose to go into the brook, and she promised again to take some photos......
I don't think I mentioned that I believe Honey laid her first egg on Thursday, there were 6 eggs in the hut and only 6 ducks including Honey in there, so unless one of the others produced two eggs she's made a start and I'm hoping her condition will improve steadily now. Her unsteady walk is always more noticeable in the afternoons than in the mornings, and from this little video on 11.3.
