Trying to play catchup again, on the last Friday of 2012 we went to see The Hobbit in 3D and were mightily impressed with birds and butterflies hovering in front of our eyes and rocks threatening to fall on us.
While letting the ducks out on 1st January Jubilee rushed to join some others and crashed into the garden furniture, she collapsed a couple of times in front of me and horrified me, then went limping off to join the crowd - she's still limping very slightly but runs high speed with all of them.
The first walk with Moira in the new year always takes place on the first day of the month rather than on the first Thursday. We did go, but didn't join them for lunch as normal as we'd been invited to a huge New Year's Day lunch at John's daughter Julie's. It was a sumptuous dinner her husband Andy had cooked but Julie wasn't very well and we didn't stay very long.
Thursday 3rd was a quiet day and John decided to burn the accumulated bags of dirty duck bedding:

Not having had any rain for days, amazingly, the ducks had stopped playing in the mud and I was surprised to see them rooting around in the orchard:
In the evening we drove to The Plough Inn, Littlethorpe, where Val and her sister Christine had invited us to a meal and to play skittles - a belated birthday present for their father Harry [in his 90s!]. Carl posted some lovely action photos on facebook and I'll insert them here now:

It was a great fun evening, the dinner in the pub was excellent, and in the last game we played, "Killer",

On Friday 4th January we had an appointment with Matt Brocklehurst, Head of Forestry of the National Forest Company - this followed John's gift of tree planting from Gerd and Maria last year. We had a very extensive walk around our fields to enable Matt to see which free tree scheme would be suitable for us [we are now in the process of contacting agents for drawing up plans].
Later on they calmed down and were busy again in the orchard and near the garage.
