A little breakout this morning

I usually start with the water hose in the run of the youngsters and then move on to the 13 "next door".  The gate was still open and, when I turned around from filling the big tub, there were Billie-Jean, Gertie and the 9 "children" out of their run and into the water containers of the 13 - good job I hadn't put food into their bowls yet or the 11 would have had it! I was pleased I had the camera with me:

When I turned round with the hose they took fright and scarpered 'back home':

Thought I'd take a few pictures of Captain, Anke and Candy as well while I had the camera with me.  In a week or so I'm thinking of adding fawn&white Ben to this group along with 2 or 3 girls, it'll be interesting to see how that goes.

The nasturtiums John planted for me behind the pond are doing nicely now.

Breakfast time finished, I found the 13 rooting around near the house, and when the new white duck [whom I've called Daisy for obvious reasons, white on the outside, yellow in the centre] turned around I was shocked to see her left eye closed.  I spent some time on the internet trying to find Nebacitin cream, or failing that Euphrasia eye drops as recommended in the German duck forum, but so far without result.  This evening though her left eye looked ok again - I wonder if she just got some grass seed in her eye, apparently it's quite a common occurrance this time of year.  I saw her washing and shaking her head frequently during the day.

  1. Thought I must have missed an entry ... Where did Daisy come from ? Love the red roses on the entrance to the duck nursery - picture perfect !

  2. Yeah, you're right, it's the first time I mentioned the name Daisy although I've been discussing various names IN MY MIND, sorry! Honey and Caramel for a couple of new grown-up ducks as well as Toffee are still in the mix - it's the stripey brown ones I have most problems with. But most of our 27 are moulting at present and will probably finish up looking quite different.

The red roses [and the cream one behind which flowered earlier] were a birthday present to John 2 or 3 years ago, coming into their own now. On the other side is rambler rose 'Albertine' and a pretty clematis in front 'siebaldii', I think, which are coming along slowly, not enough light/sun.
