watermelon

I went big time shopping after luncheon club [John had to stay behind for a church meeting], and because I'd planned to empty the stinky little pond I bought a huge watermelon and some extra drinking bowls to distract the youngsters while they couldn't have a swim.  They loved it!

Because I was moving their food station, buckets etc into the enclosure around the hut again [in readiness for Friday when they come to put up the conservatory behind the garage] these 11 got out of my way and stood up nicely.  I've put arrows against the four "little " ones who I think are too colourful to be ducks - I can only hope that the black&white ones will not make 6 drakes once more ...

My wonderful Draper dirt water pump was as efficient as ever, started it at 5 and at 10 past the pond was down to slurry.  I used the Kärcher pressure washer for the first time to clean the sides and thin down the thick gloopy mass.  This worked very well until a little apple -  I think - from the tree above got stuck in the pump and I left some inches of dirty water at the bottom of the pond and filled it up again, I can always give it another clean in a week or two.

They tried to get back into their beloved little pond a couple of times and filed back disappointed to food and water.

But it didn't take too long before the pond was back in use, by ducky bed time it was overflowing.
