Before I start writing about us I want to insert this photo granddaughter Charlotte skyped to her mum from Thailand - it looks as if she's having a very happy time.
It's 10 past 9 on Friday evening and John has just put the ducks to bed - it's teeming with rain again, we only had a brief spell today of it NOT raining. During that brief spell, while looking out of the window, I could see the aggressive green-billed duck doing what drakes do to ducks and my suspicions were confirmed, it is definitely a drake, OH DEAR. I thought it unusual for a duck to seek confrontation so often and to fight with one or two drakes. I shall contact the young man who bred them and see if he can swap this drake for a duck.To catch up on the walk with the Moira group yesterday, after seeing the weather forecasts with a solid blanket of dark blue over our region we thought it would be called off. But no, we did go, and the morning was a lot better than expected with just a constant drizzle in the air. We parked at the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas. The walk did something like a large circle around the Memorial Park, was a little longer than usual, and when we went into the Café there for lunch it really started to rain - we had been lucky. Here are a few photos from our walk:

From a distance, we thought
this was a fox or dog sitting up
this was a fox or dog sitting up
in the tall grasses.

In the background of this photo you can just see a glimpse of the central memorial, this one:
