The visit of niece Angelika and Axel were a particular highlight, they blended into our lives as if they'd always been part of it, and I hope they enjoyed their days in London and are arriving back safely in Germany as I write.

Geli, John and Axel posing in front of the huge Medlar in Calke Abbey Gardens [hope I live to see the little medlar that friend Ute Walther sent 3 years ago develop into something like this...]

A little drive and walk after lunch on my birthday to the lovely old church on top of Breedon Hill - yes, I was told off for wearing duck-hut-mucking-out-clothes, and rightly so!
The weather had been very nice and sunny while we had visitors, but the heavens opened up and cried when Annie and Eleanor left us as well on Thursday morning. The ducks loved it. The puddle that forms in rain in front of the garage has been a favourite of every group of ducks we ever had, these now combined 14 [15 when Hedda comes up now and again] are no exception:

I still mess up lots of shots with my gorgeous new - with powerful zoom - camera, present from Carl and Annie's families, as seen in the fuzzy picture top right [and many others I daren't show], but I get it right now and again!
This is one of my favourite presents from Annie, a watercolour of the little duck with
stripey feet that died in my hand. She looks like a little duck with "attitude" in this picture!
