Yesterday, 11.1.11 [what a great 'palindromic' date] we did our first volunteering stint of the year in Coleorton Wood. John had his first go at hedge laying and I carried on with clearing and tidying a patch of woodland. It was near the pond where I did my first 4 hours of maintenance work last year, and it was amazing to see how good the pond looked now whereas you wouldn't have known it was there before we started the clearance.
We've had rain all through the night and most of the day. When I went to take some photos of the ducks they came running out of the field and went straight into the pond:
It looked as if the big plate of ice covering half of the pond had finally gone. Big Hedda couldn't quite believe it and
was very careful how she slid into the water.
A couple of more shots show how wet it is everywhere and how muddy and dirty. Not that the ducks mind - they love this weather!
