catch-up with pictures

I've been heavily involved in what's hopefully the final draft of our Heritage Group's Book of Memories, and most other things have taken a step back.

So today's is just a little message to say that both myself and the ducks are fine and managing to cope with the heat wave.  Last night I waited till the cool of the evening to cut all the grass except for the fields and then took a few photos - mainly of  flowers.

I took a couple of photos from a window of where I'd been mowing, because I always think it makes the place look good, no matter how many weeds there are in the flower beds.
The arrow points to the damson tree, a lower branch of which gave me a thick lip last night and a graze on the chin.  Those lower branches are coming off!

A pretty little saxifrage has self-seeded itself into the wall against the Post Office.

This pink peony surprised me, the last time I'd looked at it there were only small buds!

The "Beauty Bush" [I can't remember the proper name] has filled out lovely, and the red lupin I bought earlier this year surprised me with a flower spike I didn't expect until next year.

The little red cluster rose on the arch has now made an appearance among the yellow ones, and in the background on the right you can see that the mock orange has burst into bloom - the evening air is filled with their scents.

Petra's rose gift has developed into a little beauty.  The buds start in the palest pink,
then develop into these white, open blooms

This must be one of the loveliest roses ever, it's called Artemis.....

... but this one is still very hard to beat for form, colour and scent:

No blog entry without duck pictures, so here are three I took this afternoon.  Ben has lost his hunch after the fox bite and is now in his summer moult.  He also thinks he's the leader of the group!

Vera was leading this trip out, Ben can be seen best on the left of this bottom picture.
