What a surprise!

It was a wet and FOGGY evening last night.  I was waiting for the nurses to arrive to get John ready for bed, around half past 7, when I heard noises outside, a commotion even.  I opened the front door, couldn't see anyone, then shouted "anybody there?"

To my amazement a black bullock peered around the rambling rose in front of the sunlounge, wearing very fetching white ear tags.  From the noises I'd heard earlier I feared he'd brought all his mates with him and shut the door quick.  What to do?  It's only a few steps up our drive onto the road, and I was afraid of the bullocks going there and causing an accident, the vision of any driver would have been impaired by the fog. I called the farmer next door and left a message on his answerphone, then called the local police and explained the situation.

Our security light came on outside and I heard bashing noises coming from the direction of the stile, then no more until I hung my head out of the window some time later when there was shouting in the field next to ours - I assumed the cattle were being sorted by the farmer.

When it got light this morning I went out with the iPad and took a few photos, and to judge by the hoof prints around the frog pond and over stretches of the garden as far as the big pond it was just the one bullock that had made its way in, I guess somewhere further up the field, and made its way through the ditch and into our garden.  And because the top rail of the stile was broken I guess he jumped over there to rejoin the rest of his group.  The only damage I've seen so far was one of the ducks' water buckets smashed - that one had already lost its handle and so I didn't mind very much.

The ducks don't seem to have been disturbed ....
