Update from Tuesday, mainly

A funny diagonal arrangement of 5 eggs in the duck shed, usually they're grouped into "nests" at the back and on the right next to the door from where they sometimes get kicked out in the rush.  But the egg-laying is a little scattered now, we find some in nests the ducks made outside somewhere sheltered, or dropped in a hurry in the open - if we spot them early enough we can get them before the jackdaws or magpies do.

Dotty in her little outside enclosure.  I've not seen it myself but John says some of the ducks and drakes have been to check up on her, having slipped through the fence.  But she's within the fruit cage, quite safe.

Ducks and drakes having a search party after I "crown-lifted" one of our conifers [one we bought as a ground cover!].

Captain having a 'kip' while his two girls are taking a swim.  Can you see the little bit of red peering out behind the branches at the back of the pond?  Those are the first two nasturtium flowers, I'm chuffed.

The beautiful, big red poppies are on their way out now, but lots of new things are coming up to flower all the time, like for instance the climbing hydrangea on the garage:

The hay meadow is thriving,

and the flowering thyme in the patio patches is at its peak.  It is absolutely buzzing with bees, as are the purple flowering geraniums, the alliums, the hydrangea, and I bet the hay meadow is too - we're doing our bit for the bees!

A little gathering of ducks and drakes in front of the house, look at Honey sitting like the queen bee on wilting daffodil leaves next to the bucket.

She still walks very awkwardly, the implant doesn't appear to have helped her much.  But I will not put her through this or any other procedure again.  She is so terrified of being caught that she gets out of my way even from a "safe" distance.  She has worked out her own little routine of keeping in with the others that I'll let her be.

After three days outside I've had to fetch Dotty into her box in the old conservatory again this afternoon, Thursday 27th, when it started to rain, the clipping of the spiral conifers which I started this morning I've had to abandon as well.
Yesterday, in spite of her loud protests, I took a couple more photos of Dotty showing that her left leg is likely to remain useless.  The treatment of the area under her eyes with antiseptic cream is being successful, though, a crust has formed and I hope it drops off soon.
