Dotty's back home!

I could collect Dotty just after 11 from Loughborough.  Vet Brian gave me lots of instructions about aftercare.  He didn't like my idea of keeping her in a small fenced-off area outside where she could see her mates, he was sure she would try and get to them and she mustn't move much for at least 2 weeks [he didn't think she'd want to, anyway].

I kept her in her box in the garage until I had prepared her new 'home' [the very box our first lot of ducklings lived in, in 2005] in the old conservatory.

This photo is shaky, I'm sorry.  I shot it one-handed while opening the box.
Dottys "coat hanger"consists of No.1, which joins the two broken pieces of thigh bone, and so that the lower piece of bone can't rotate round the upper a second piece was inserted from the side to stop rotation.  Both wires were bent and joined together with strong glue so that there can be no movement.  I think it is after 4 weeks that No.1 will be cut off close to the skin, and No.2 will then be unscrewed and removed entirely.

She can stand up  -  and shout at me!  The vet thought there was hope that nerve damage had been avoided because she was able to put her left paddle on to the ground.
