and as if by magic it was nearly all gone

The weather forecasters had it spot on - more snow during Friday night into Saturday and then the thaw would start.  We'd get sun during the day and rain later on, so true, we got soaked as we came out of Sarah's school after the big quiz night.  When we got back home [midnight!, late for us old folk] the patio with the patches of thyme was almost clear, and this morning the view out of the window was like this:

Compare this with the same view on Tuesday 22nd:

The ducks couldn't believe the change that had happened overnight; they're busy right now exploring their favourite places in the garden:

On Friday morning we still had spectacular icicles hanging from the duck shed, and after I'd dug away as much of the dirty ice and snow from around their feeding area they all got stuck in and found some nice black soil:

The three in the big pond looked a bit lonely, but the "mob" soon joined them for 'fun and games' -

Did I mention that since we've had the covering of snow the boys appear to have lost their passionate feelings and that the girls finally had a break in egg laying.  I found the last 3 in two huts on Saturday 19th morning and three more lying outside on the snow.  Since then nothing - apart from 1 in Captain's hut on the 23rd after Winnie had been shut in there by mistake the night before!
