Mocca's back from the vet's

Having done the duck duties an hour earlier than usual we took Mocca to the vet's in Loughborough before half past 8 this morning.  We came back home for coffee and I spent over an hour watching mummies and babies in the pond while enjoying my coffee.

At quarter to 11 we went to Ibstock on Luncheon Club duty, went shopping afterwards, and rang the vet's for news at 3  -  we could fetch our duck any time we were told.  Good news from vet Brian, he didn't have to "put her under" as he said, but scratched away from under her foot as much as he could  -  and he didn't charge us at all!

Mocca's feet didn't look much better to my eyes:
That largest lump under her left foot has been giving her the most trouble and is the one the vet has worked on.  But the infection has reached the middle bone which is swollen.  You can see there are lumps under the right foot as well - she'll never walk as well as the others, but she was very happy to join the rest of her gang again:

When I first looked at these photos I heard a racket outside, and when I looked out of the window I could see Gertie standing behind the gate and 4 of the drakes making noises at her, how did she get out of the netted enclosure?  And not only that, I could see one of the ducklings out on the far side of the netting.

When I dashed out to the gate at the back where the little pond is I could see that both mummies and babies were in the water - I couldn't see where they'd pushed under to get into the pond.  So I lifted the netting to get them back in again ................ and got a big surprise: there was baby No. 10, still with yolk sack attached, struggling to join the group.  I managed to scoop it up and put it back into the nest box, but was surprised that Billie didn't go in after it.  Then I saw that one of the ducklings was still outside of the netting, and when I managed to get hold of that and put it back inside reaching over the top of the netting Billie attacked me, how ungrateful of her!

So Michael was right again, he predicted there'd be a tenth.  I really hadn't expected any more because both Billie-Jean and Gertie seem to be outside of the hut all the time.  I hope that little baby is alright ...

Now just a few photos from this morning's swimming session and then I'll call it a day.

I really started something with these swimming sessions, as soon as they see me coming they all line up inside the netting which I lift to let them out!

While I was taking these photos cheeky boy Georgie [your "pretty boy", Annie!] came running up to the fence - he's the one who's been causing more mayhem than Jay-Z with Anke and Candy until I finally managed to find and mend all the holes in the fence where they slipped through and terrorized those girls.

And when we came home from shopping there was a very peaceful sleep party going on under the garden trolley:
