Petra, Klaus visit

It's high time I put in some photos from Petra and Klaus' visit, it's already two days since they left for their 2-week holiday in the Cotswolds after Friday lunch.

Just like Pine and Michael they arrived with far too many presents for us, we always get embarrassed by so many.  A particularly noteworthy one was this big leaf cactus with a huge yellow bloom open and one big bud.  How the two of them managed to transport it unscathed in their car is a mystery to all of us.  The gorgeous blooms only last for three days, and true to form, as the first bloom died 3 days later the bud opened.

The weather was not kind to us during the Pit&Klaus visit.  Wednesday morning we spent at Staunton Harold, and just as the long choosing over which roses to take home with them was completed the heavens opened again.  We were lucky and escaped into the garden restaurant and had lunch there.  In the afternoon, however, during a walk through Coleorton, we got completely drenched in spite of wearing suitable rain wear, it was not much fun.

The best of the weather we had on Thursday morning when we went for our walk in the "Outwoods" below Beacon Hill, famous for the spectacular display of bluebells in May.

Klaus took the photo top right and the following four, he managed to have the bluebells show up better than I did!

The small photo on the right shows a good view of Loughborough from one corner of the woods, the  "Carillon" bell tower with its green roof can be seen in the centre.

They produce charcoal in the small enclosure in the dip.

I took a photo of this 'root sculpture' with Pine in mind ...... I'm sure she would have loved it!

The prehistoric rock formation in the Outwoods were my particular favourite.

We took this shady path back to the parking lot.

We took our lunch in the
"King's Arms" in Coleorton.

Our nice builders had finished the foundation wall for the conservatory [which is going to be built up again there] by lunchtime on Thursday, the whole thing took less than 2 days.
Photo on the right: Petra took her chance to photograph the group of 10 while they were gathered there.

We played Mexican Train until very late on every one of the three nights Petra and Klaus spent with us.  On the first two nights something happened that had been thought impossible by all present including Petra herself: SHE WON!  I had hoped that she could repeat her success on the third night, but it was back to normal, Klaus won, and he was also the overall winner.
