John's family joined us on Sunday, we were 10 sitting down to our Easter Sunday dinner of turkey and lots of vegetables, there were even some that Michael liked eating ....[sorry, Michael, only joking!], and for dessert we had a choice of 3, the meringue looked spectacular:
In the afternoon Pine invited Leah to colour the 10 eggs I'd boiled. The year before, in their huge Easter parcel to us, they had included an intriguing colouring kit which I hadn't even tried - it certainly came into its own this year! There were 3 pots containing chips or shredding of some kind into which liquid colouring was poured. The still warm eggs were transferred from one pot to another, shaken vigorously, and finished up looking multicoloured like this:
Leah was well into this activity, I had to boil 6 extra eggs when she'd finished with the first 10 [AND she took ALL of them home with her except one she'd done for her grandad!]

- except Elizabeth whose arm you can see getting in on the action in the photo below:

Michael's choice of pictures from the egg colouring afternoon were these below, he likes a nice frame around pictures:
After this "exhausting" activity we all sat down and watched Mary Poppins on TV laughing and joking and joining in the songs - yes, I know, highly embarrassing. Tony, Sam and Elizabeth went off to walk Frisbee the dog, and when John went to Church all guests dispersed leaving Pine, Michael and myself in the house - we had a great time choosing our supper from the dinner leftovers:

Easter Monday turned out to be as never-endingly wet as the weather forecasters had threatened us with. We decided not to join our walking group [sorry, Moira!] and instead drove to a Derby Showcase Cinema. We watched Titanic in 3D for 3½ hours! That really was an experience, I was hugely impressed. Pine and Michael had seen the film before and so were able to follow the action in English.
Apart from briefly looking after the ducks there was nothing we could do outside, so Pine thought that was exactly the right time to show me how to bake a particular cheesecake [Michael's favourite]. Amazingly she had brought along all the ingredients she wanted for it including Quark, cream, flour, sugar, Citro Back, Vanilla sugar AND hen's eggs - she wasn't sure it would work with duck eggs thinking the egg white content was less, it'll be for me to try the recipe with duck eggs!

The cake turned out spectacularly well, it smelled divine and looked like a volcano about to blow when it came out of the oven. John and I didn't get to try it [except for a couple of bits that had dropped off] until it had rested overnight and spent some hours in the fridge. Pine served it up when we came back from our walk on Beacon Hill ...... but that will be in the next blog entry.
