On Monday afternoon, coming back from checking on the five at the big pond in streams of sunlight, I saw a rainbow in the suddenly darkening sky, which within seconds made a perfect semi-circle .........
.............. and then the rain started! I didn't mind, really, the frog pond had been almost emptied by that time and I thought it might as well wait until the next morning for further action.

Yesterday morning, then, I had a go at scooping out as much of the broken ice as I could, topped up the pond with fresh water a couple of times and pumped it out again before taking the pump out and letting the pond refill without giving it a proper scrub-out - I'm sure it'll be due again for cleaning in a short time!
Our group of ten watched proceedings with great interest and seemed dead keen to get into the water, never mind how shallow. I snapped them from inside the sun room:

Today we've had a couple of incidents. Jay and Beyoncé/Praline turned up at the top of the fish pond, contemplating whether to go in or not. John rushed out to stop them, but of course they dived right in and scattered our new fishes in all directions. Then they flew out straight into the frog pond at the bottom, yes, they can fly when they feel the need!
A little later big H and Billie-Jean could be seen entangled in the old electric fence section near the damson tree. H freed himself but John had to cut B-J out with scissors. She behaved afterwards as if nothing had happened, and later again 7 of them could be seen in the orchard mixing with 4 from the bottom group and then slipping back into their own territory through the hole John had cut - the fence needs adjusting, methinks ...
