Just a few photos today. Half the day I've been trying to capture how they're flapping their practically non-existing winglets after a bath, and I just can't get them to do it facing the camera ....
This is a photo I've been meaning to put in here for some days. The very full, pink poppies turned up out of nowhere inside our old fallen-down greenhouse and have been flowering their socks off for weeks!
These two pictures are for my friend Petra - I forgot to enclose them in the email to her tonight. She had sent me the Epiphyllums a few months ago [which John potted up and look how well they're growing] and the little smiling chap to cheer me up after so many of our ducks had died.
To finish, a couple of little pictures from this morning, when we could watch a blackbird feed its young on the bird table in front of the house.
Love the flapping ! Top left - little boy ?
ReplyDeleteI'm still on the go for flapping pictures. A couple of the little tykes actually came towards me while flapping, but the blooming fence was in front!
ReplyDeleteIf we were to go by the size of them, i.e. boys bigger than girls, than we've got at least 5 boys ...... we shall see in about 2 weeks' time ...
What happens then then .??
ReplyDeleteUsually about that time the girls will quack and the boys sound as if they're hoarse. 2005 we had 7 boys and just 4 girls, and I spent ages trying to place the lads into good homes ... This time Mel has offered to take any spare drakes, she's not squeamish like me and I know she's eaten them in the past ... If we do have too many drakes I'm tempted to split the group into all batchelors together and any girls plus one male only. Trickiest time is starting February when the drakes get über-hormonal, I'm sure you remember [Ch:"what are they doing, mummy"]. XXX Mutti
ReplyDeleteThere is no way on this earth that one of your babies will go somewhere that they will encounter Peking or orange !! Bricks ? Hormonal injections ? Bromide .? Hoisin sauce ? Whoops .. Just meant the threat of it !!
ReplyDeleteToo right, Annie, NO WAY! As far as I know, though, they have no dangly bits for bricks to be applied .....
ReplyDeleteYou are making me laugh !!!
