frog - but not for dinner!

Had a big surprise as I emptied the ducklings' little blue pool  -  a sizeable frog jumped out:

For size comparison there's a blackbird at the top of this photo on the right - frog bottom right hand corner.

When I'd refilled the blue container and turned around to fill the others it jumped back in, hiding first under the stones and then swimming out in the open.

I don't know if it's still there, I certainly didn't see the ducklings with it!

I really don't know why these little videos come in duplicated, it's only ever one when I've uploaded it.  This one shows - and you can hear it too - how much they enjoyed their lunch!

From listening in to the noises they make, and reading an entry in the German Duck Forum from my experienced duck friend Lexx saying that green beaks indicate girls we should have 5 females definitely.  I was especially pleased to hear No. 11 - the one I very nearly killed with a heavy clamp I dropped - quack at me right in front of my face as I was taking this video!

John and I have been very, very busy making a hard surface area [interspersed with blocks of low-growing thyme] in front of the sun lounge.  It was particularly exhausting in the heat and sunshine of yesterday, but we made a good start:

  2. It's so strange with the videos. After I put in this last one I got 1 email and 1 phone call from 2 couples who'd seen and enjoyed them, and the next time I looked there was just a black screen and I couldn't see it either. I'll try en re-enter this one or post it on YouTube.
Names are slowly emerging - HeddaJedda will stay, Sarah's fave was christened Blue by visiting walking friend Edna because of her blue wingtips. My black favourite will be Cleo [Kohl eye surrounds in reverse, i.e. white Kohl!] if it's a girl and Tuts[Tutenkhamen] if a boy. Green beak could be [Green]Goddess and the one I clouted and nearly killed 'Clamp', or is that too horrible? Latest estimate of girls and boys is 5:5 ............

    I'm working on comparison babies/teens!
