Thursday, 2nd June 2011 - Monthly Walk

I'll try and put in a few photos this morning before letting the ducks out and getting ready for the walk - Eleanor is coming along on it this time.

Yesterday John spoke with the vet who carried out the autopsies.  She said she had only just got back the official, detailed report which would be sent to our vet in Sileby and then to us.  Vet Rita said again that our remaining 5 at the big pond could still be carrying the virus in them which could break out any time, and she asked if we couldn't net over the area to keep out the mallards .......

John spends a lot of time down there, not just on fox watch while he's planting various vegetables, but also to chase away the persistent mallards.  Eleanor and I have been helping with that.  On one chase I got as far as the amelanchier in the field enclosure, and I realized for the first time why this tree is also called "june berry":
I'd only ever admired the plentiful blossom on this tree and the lovely autumn colours - never seen these berries before!
Eleanor took this pretty photo of our 5, and she also took a lot of wonderful close-ups of bees, so much better than I ever managed, look at these!

Eleanor particularly liked this heart-shaped one ........

...... and this one of a bee "take-off:
