Friday, 17th June 2011 - Happy Birthday, Susi, and Happy Anniversary to us!

It is our 'ivory' anniversary today, the 14th, and although my present to John [elephant bookends, I wasn't going to get REAL ivory!] hadn't arrived we had a brilliant day - gardening till 11, lunch at the Lakeside Restaurant followed by loads of shopping for plants and flowers for the garden; I shall report on how they grow in time, we left them all outdoors in the rain...... apart from the gorgeous orange hibiscus I "forced" John into buying for me:

After we'd returned home for a well-earned cup of tea and I'd cleaned out the duck hut and chased the persistent mallard pair away I did a bit of flower arranging [simple pleasures, eh?].  I'd been inspired  by my friend Pine's  arrangement of gorgeous old-fashioned roses in her glass bowl, this one,

and came up with something similar, appropriately accompanied by one of our wedding pictures [framed by a wedding gift from our dear friends Frances and Alan], I thought it looked lovely:

In the evening a big moment for the eggs in the incubators, we took the first lot out of the cradle as hatch is due in two days .... let's hope we get some ducklings.

Our big disappointment was that we had to remove most of the eggs sent from our friends which are due to hatch two days later - after further candling they looked empty.
