Sunday, 17.4.2011 Another blooming walk through the garden

The count of shrubs/plants we lost over winter has risen to 14 now, but before I get around to replacing them I'm enjoying all that thrives and blooms in the garden now.

The first thing I see through the windows in the morning is the flowering blackthorn along the hedge,
I always think it looks like smoke.

This blue anemone comes up every year and multiplies without any help from me at all, I love it!

These tiny violas I took out from under the spirals in the front garden last year and planted them along the garage,  they're flowering well, lovely little things.

The conference pear against the garage is not showing many flowers this year [Gerd will be disappointed in autumn], but the Williams Christ is making up for it:

There's a beautiful group of white daffodils or narcissi at the end of one of the long borders, and I have no idea where they came from or if we planted them.  They're not far away from the two crab apples "Red Sentinel":

Also in that area of the garden are tiny tulips under the weepng birch and a cherry tree

and the Morello cherry which I cut in half two years ago flowering beautifully:
Just to the left and below of this picture of the orchard the snakeshead fritillaries are still going strong, as is the little clump of cowslips,

and I still have red tulips - I thought I'd lost them - in front of the red berberis which is also flowering,

and the green berberis is about to start.  Just one open flower in this photo, but there's the bonus of a ladybird!

While I was not far from the big duck pond I could hear a commotion down there, and as I got close all three drakes were fighting on a duck under water.  Hedda was off into the field protesting loudly and Anabelle was running towards me - so it was Candida they'd got.  I know I wrote yesterday about Captains pirating excursions but the other two boys are no angels and do the same when they get a chance.  Blob, the little coward, ran off as I shouted, but I got a picture of the other two:

I'll finish blossom time today with the big cherry trees.  The one nearest the house is half dead but the others look a picture:

  1. It's because I pick all the good bits out, Charlie, but thank you!
