I got such a shock this morning  ........

Because the ducks get let out around 9 since the clocks went forward I only got myself ready to go outside at 8, just so I could have an hour's weeding without interference from the "noodles".  Glanced out of the window, and what do I see?  The 9 ducks up here are out in the little pond and rooting around in the enclosure!  How on earth, did John maybe let them out early for some reason?  I went and asked him, he looked blank and said no.  I think he's having me on.  So I go out and investigate.  The enclosure is still shut, the trap door is closed - how did they get out?  Then I see .... one of the two doors is open!  That was my fault then because I'd put the little tykes to bed last night and didn't notice that the door was still open [I'd opened it yesterday to air the hut].  So, sometime during the night or early morning they must have noticed the open door and hopped out to play -

Another funny thing happened:

The workers told us that one of their visitors from work had very earnestly entreated them to be cautious of the ducks, they were very vicious, he said.  And he stressed that they had to be very careful when going up the drive, to stick to the middle, grassy bit and not walk on the tracks the cars had made ..... or the ducks would attack them!  Our workers then watched with great amusement how this chap, on his way out, walked carefully up the drive, sticking to the grassy bit in the middle.   Yes, I KNOW! I found it hard to believe as well -

Further news from the front: I left the feeding station up here near the house, if only to keep an eye on it and so that the four from the lower hut will make their way up here.  They do come, actually, they usually wait till the coast is clear and the other group is busy elsewhere ..... apart from our 'noodles' who always seem to come along, too.  I was able to take a snap of this later this morning:

Do take note of the fact that no attack was mounted by Captain - this place is obviously far enough away from his realm!

Other news: 'Our' workmen have started their new job in Derby and will only drop by here at odd times to finish the last few bits of work.

The banister has been finished now, the door frame and former window in the yellow bedroom have been plastered.  The door is standing ready but has to be hung yet, the floor boards and skirting boards are waiting to be finished.  And when the new upstairs room has been painted ornamental roof beams need to be put in.
When I was getting flowers and greenery for the table bunches tomorrow I could see that the damson had also opened its flower buds  - in this photo below you can see the pretty white blossom:
